What the steps to solving this?

I mean what are the steps to solving this?
What's with the 6-× in
1/3(12+x)=-8(6-×) ?
I will assume you meant:
1/3(12+x)=-8(6-x)
first of all expand both sides to get individual terms
then I would multiply each term by 3 to eliminate fractions.
From there it is easy, just simplify and solve
If you meant
1/3(12+x)=-8(6^-x) we would have ourselves a really nasty equation.
