1/2(k-5)=3

Well, since you did nt read the chapter on parentheses I will have to guess a couple of possibilities.
(1/2)(k-5) = 3
k - 5 = 6
k = 11

or maybe
1/[2(k-5)] = 3
1 = 6(k-5)
1 = 6 k - 30
6 k = 31
k = 31/6
( 1 / 2 ) ( k - 5 ) = 3 Multiply both sides by 2

k - 5 = 6 Add 5 to both sides

k - 5 + 5 = 6 + 5

k = 11

Proof :

( 1 / 2 ) ( k - 5 ) = ( 1 / 2 ) ( 11 - 5 ) = 6 / 2 = 3
