I'll do the first one.
-1/9 + (-5/7) =
First, find the common denominator.
1/9 = 7/63
5/7 = 45/63
-7/63 + (-45/63) = -52/63
I'll be glad to check your answers for the other problems.

Thanks! but i still don't understand how you got 7/63 in the first step. So is there any way you could show me how to do the second one step-by-step?
1/9 = 7/63
I multiplied both the numerator and denominator by 7.

The easiest way is to change these to improper fractions.
3 1/2 = 7/2
1 5/9 = 14/9
(7/2) / (14/9) =
(7/2) * (9/14) = 63/28 = 2.25
She can cut two pieces of ribbon from this length.
3 1/2 = 7/2
1 5/9 = 14/9
(7/2) / (14/9) =
(7/2) * (9/14) = 63/28 = 2.25
She can cut two pieces of ribbon from this length.
Thanks sooo much I understand it now!!!!
Yay!
