Unit 5: Argument Portfolio Reminders
In this unit, you will be preparing and submitting two distinct portfolios. The first portfolio will be an outline that serves as a foundation for the second portfolio, which will be your final Argument Essay. It’s important to pace yourself and begin compiling your materials immediately.
Important Dates and Reminders
- Outline Due Date: Thursday, February 6th, by the end of the day in the portfolio Dropbox.
- Submission Guidelines: Ensure that both your outline and the final argument essay are typed in Google Docs and have editing rights enabled.
Suggested Timeline for Your Portfolios
- 2/3: Pick your topic (options listed below).
- 2/4 - 2/6: Conduct research and populate your outline (Critical Course Task).
- 2/6: Submit your outline in the portfolio Dropbox.
- 2/7 - 2/17: Draft your argument essay.
- 2/18 - 2/19: Revise and edit your argument essay.
- 2/19: Submit your final argument essay in the portfolio Dropbox.
Required Topic Choices
Choose one of the following topics for your argument essay:
- Why people should read a particular book.
- Why people should eat a certain kind of breakfast.
- Why people should volunteer at a particular place.
- Why people should admire your favorite celebrity (author, actor, athlete, politician, journalist, humanitarian, music group, or singer).
Important Notes
- Outline Format: You MUST use the provided outline format and guidelines for your first portfolio submission. Click here to access the Guidelines & Outline.
- Checkpoint Assignment: The outline is a Checkpoint Assignment and a Critical Course Task. Failure to submit your outline by February 6th may result in your Connexus account being disabled. You will then need to attend LHT with your completed outline to regain access and submit your work.
- Submission Deadline for GIOs: The last day to submit GIOs for the outline is February 27th.
Formatting
Both the Outline & Final Copy of your Argument MUST be typed in Google Docs with editing rights.
