Factor the following problems

X^2+X-42=0



2x^2+7x+3=0

I can factor expressions, but not problems.

You want two factors of 42 that differ by 1, so that when you subtract (because of the -42) you have 1 left over:

(x+7)(x-6) = 0

Then, the other is

(2x+3)(x+2) = 0
